Bike Rider Magazine

The Problem

Bike Rider Magazine, New Zealand’s leading motorbike publication, was struggling with a digital presence that hadn’t kept pace with their print excellence. After a decade of various developers and the owner making incremental changes, the website had become unwieldy and problematic. The core issues were clear: an outdated design that didn’t reflect their premium brand, a staggering 38 plugins that were slowing down the site significantly, and a maintenance nightmare that made even simple updates challenging. As they looked to strengthen their digital presence, these technical issues were holding them back from delivering the quality content their readers expected.

The Solution

We undertook a complete overhaul of the Bike Rider Magazine website, focusing on both structural efficiency and user experience. The solution centred around three key areas: streamlining the backend, implementing a flexible template system, and modernising the design. By conducting a thorough plugin audit, we dramatically reduced the number of plugins from 38 to just 10, keeping only those essential for the site’s functionality. The new template-based structure was designed with future maintenance in mind, making it straightforward for the team to update content and maintain consistency across the site. Every design decision was made with both speed and user experience in mind, ensuring the site would perform as well as it looks.

The Outcome

While the site has only recently launched, the initial technical improvements are already significant. The reduction in plugins and optimised design has resulted in noticeably faster load times, providing a much-improved user experience for motorcycle enthusiasts accessing their content. The new template system has simplified content management for the Bike Rider team, reducing the time and effort needed for updates. The modernised design now properly reflects their position as New Zealand’s leading motorcycle publication. As the site gains traction, we anticipate seeing improved engagement metrics, increased digital readership, and a stronger online presence for this respected publication.
